- Diagnosis
- Broad leafy articulated stem, with strongly striated internodes, and
covered by large foliar sheaths totally adpressed to the stem. Foliar
sheaths overlying all internodal area or nearly its entire length;
laterally opened or split (not cylindrical) expanding outward from
the stem margins to form lateral leaflets free. Leaflets strong, rigid,
curved and relatively short, ending in a lanceolate form. Foliar
sheaths having strong longitudinal ribs extended up to the apices
of the leaflets into the form of midribs, having a conspicuous central
strand (vascular bundle).
