Diagnosis
Seeds globose-ellipsoid, anatropous, 1-1-5-15 mm in length and 1-05-4-4 mm broad, with a longitudinal raphe ndge rarely visible externally Seeds with a terminal cap bearing a central, slit-like micropyle with the slit aligned so that an extension of it would run through the adjacent, but separate columnar hilum. Margin of cap toothed, surface cells quadrangular in obscure rows, becoming digitate at the margin. Surface cells of seed irregularly and deeply digitate with 5-8 lobes per cell. Surface of cells finely granulate. The tips of some lobes bear long or short, hollow, hair-hke papillae. Testa two-layered. The outer layer columnar and sclerotic, 155-185 fim thick, one cell deep, with very thick outer penclinal and anticlinal walls Inner layer parenchymatous, 4—6 cells deep, less than one half of the thickness of the sclerotic layer.
