- Cataphyll and leaf bases in alternating cycles. Polyxylic stem covered by
cataphylls and persistent rhomboidal foliar bases. Vascular cylinder with six rings of collateral vascular bundles with phloem toward the outside and divided into fanlike sectors by multiseriate, parenchymatous rays. Foliar traces run irregularly, and as they pass through wide rays to the outer cortex they curve, producing a girdling configuration.
