- Woody plants with predominantly sympodially branched (or divaricate) axes with persistent leaf bases below reproductive organs; petiolate leaves of
the Zamites type, shed as a whole, spirally attached below flowers; dichasial inflorescence, main axis terminating in a single flower; microsporangiate and ovuliferous flowers separate, unisexual; gynoecium elongate-ovate, surrounded by two whorls of slender, elongate-lanceolate bracts; floral axis projecting through the gynoecium, corona present; receptacle bearing a tightly packed array of elongate oval ovules separated by sterile interseminal
scales; assumed conspecific microsporangiate flower cup-shaped, consisting of basally fused lobes carrying appendices (microsporangia) on adaxial side in two rows along a median line; lobes triangulate.
