Diagnosis
Seeds small, anatropous, bitegmic and exotestal, ellipsoid to spherical, bilaterally symmetrical with the plane of symmetry running through the raphe, sometimes slightly laterally compressed. Raphe indistinct externally. Hilum distinct forming a depression at the apex of the seed. Micropyle formed by the inner integument, marked on outer integument by a transverse slit adjacent to the hilum. Testa formed from an outer layer of palisade-shaped sclereids and an inner layer of thin-walled parenchyma cells. Palisade cells large, irregularly arranged; facets with strongly undulate anticlinal walls except at the apical conical structure where they are aequiaxial and rectangular-polygonal with straight walls. Parenchyma layer of testa several cells deep. Tegmen thin, crushed.
