- Seeds small, anatropous, bitegmic and exotestal,
ellipsoid to spherical, bilaterally symmetrical with the plane of symmetry running
through the raphe, sometimes slightly laterally compressed. Raphe indistinct
externally. Hilum distinct forming a depression at the apex of the seed. Micropyle
formed by the inner integument, marked on outer integument by a transverse slit
adjacent to the hilum. Testa formed from an outer layer of palisade-shaped
sclereids and an inner layer of thin-walled parenchyma cells. Palisade cells large,
irregularly arranged; facets with strongly undulate anticlinal walls except at the
apical conical structure where they are aequiaxial and rectangular-polygonal with
straight walls. Parenchyma layer of testa several cells deep. Tegmen thin, crushed.
