large to sometimes absent; stem-like vascular segments surrounded
by concentric secondary xylem development; secondary xylem development
developed more centrifugally; vascular segments may be
ovate, cuneate, or pear-shaped in cross-section; secondary xylem
pycnoxylic; axial parenchyma not observed; tracheid pitting round,
often flattened, uniseriate to biseriate, tangential pitting may be present;
outer secondary vascular segments absent or present, where
present they are variable in size and shape; anastomosing.
