- Anisodichotomously divided; smooth axes. Some main axes and lateral branches terminate in a fertile structure consisting of four leaflike appendages, each with associated sporangium to the inside and the whole resulting from two closely spaced, cruciate dichotomies of the subtending axis. Distal regions of the appendage fold over the top of the sporangium. Vegetative lateral branches end in recurved, acuminate tips.
