Diagnosis
Branching shoots plagiotropous, opposite and altemate, branches and branchlets arising in the axils of lateral leaves, oЬliquely spreading. Leaves persistent, decussate, scaly, dimorphic, оп penultimate braпches at least twice loпger than on the ultimate. Facial and lateral leaves approximately equal in length; facial leaves flatly adpressed, thickened aloпg the midline, typically keeled, apices acute to acuminate, thickened; lateralleaves folded, decurreпt, free portion пarrowly spreadiпg, acute, claspiпg facial leaves or subteпdiпg the higher order branches. Leaves of axes beariпg seed сопеs of опе type, decurreпt, distally free, falcate. Leaves amphistomatic, stomata iп irregular baпds on abaxial side of facialleaves, mostly oЬlique to the midline. Stomata mопо- or (rare) amphicyclic, with typically 5 subsidiary cells, which are iпdistinctly differentiated iпto the polar and lateral, ofteп contiguous. Trichomes as irregularly developed small pits on subsidiary and ordinary cells. Pollen cones up to 7 mm loпg, 1-4 mm iп diameter, terminal on ultimate branchlets, consisting of 3-5 decussate pairs of peltate microsporophylls. Peltae of microsporophylls leaf-like, 1-2.2 mm loпg, 0.5-2 mm wide, the larger (proximal) with stomata. Sporaпgia abaxial, 2-5 at the base of peltae, globose to obovate, 0.~.5 mm long, 0.35-{).45 mm iп diameter. Pollen about 20 /lШ iп diameter, spherical to slightly elliptical, irregularly gemmate, germiпal area. Seed сопеs erect, globose to оЬlопg, 3.5-5 mm loпg, 3-4 mm iп diameter, bome оп short stalks in 1-6 орроsite pairs in two side rows or decussate over а fertile zones of penultimate axes, which is leafy above. Fertile cone scales four in two decussate pairs, approximately equal in size, woody, subpeltate, umbo subapical with prominent, erect point. Seeds 3-5 per scale, inverted on short funiculus, Ьilaterally winged.
