Diagnosis
Wood diffuse-porous. Vessels dominantly solitary or in short radial multiples of 2–4, occurring in intermediate density (5–15 per mm2). Simple perforation plates. Intervessel pits alternate, Tyloses common. Rays commonly multiseriate, 2–3 cellswide, rarely uniseriate. Rays exclusively heterocellular, composed of procumbent cells, with 1–3 rows of upright marginal cells. Axial parenchyma paratracheal vasicentric to aliform confluent. Apotracheal parenchyma in the form of 3- to 9-seriate, continuous, tangential, undulating bands, 2–4 per mm, sometimes bifurcating and joining adjacent bands, forming an anastomosed pattern, and separated by fibre bands of similar size.
