- Diagnosis
- Segmented axes with leaves arranged in whorls of three.
Leaves fused basally without suture, forming nodes. Apical parts of
leaves free, triangular. Surfaces of leaves and their margins covered by
trichomes and papillae of varying lengths. Stomata in rows surrounded
by four and rarely five subsidiary cells. Subsidiary cells bearing two pairs
of papillae, one outer pair and one inner pair of papillae within the stomatal
pit.
