- Axes 0.6-1.3 mm wide, with isotomous or anisotomous branches, branching angles 15°-60°. Fertile axes isotomously branch at least three times, intervals between successive branches 1.4-2.4 cm, each final one terminating in a spike. Spikes, 7.2-20 mm long and 3-3.8 mm wide, usually composed of 6-23 sporangia. Sporangia spirally and closely arranged along the fertile axis, generally in three rows. Sporangia flattened, round to elliptical in face view, 1.4-3.0 mm high and 1.8-3.6 mm wide. Stalks, 0.7-1.2 mm long and 0.3-0.7 mm wide, departing from the axis at an angle of 20°-40°. Sometimes, concave junction between sporangial body and stalk clear. Dehiscence along the entire margin of sporangium; thickened border, up to about 0.7 mm wide at distal margin and gradually tapering proximally into stalk
