- Fertile and sterile
stems at least 20 cm long and 3–10 mm wide; at least 10 cm
between successive branchings. Lateral branches depart at acute
or right angles and bend upward within 10 mm of departure.
Emergences tapered, 2.5–5.0 mm long; 2–5 mm at the base;
equally spaced along a given axis, 2–10 mm apart. Emergences
bear darkened tips. Sporangia 1–2 mm wide, 1 mm long, on a
very short (!1 mm) stalk; distal margins of sporangia are
strongly incurved. Stomatal apparatus anomocytic.
