Diagnosis
Axial shoots with helically arranged fl at linear, falcate or scale-shaped leaves, varying in shape and size. Ultimate branchlets with linear or linear-lanceolate distichous leaves, reaching 5—14 mm (usually 6—8 mm) in length. Apex of the linear leaves broadly triangular with blunt or rounded point. Leaves hypostomatic. Stomatal bands with 3—5 stomata per width, 1—3 stomata near the apex, stomata no forming the rows. On some leaves stomata oriented longitudinally or obliquely, on the other irregularly. Subsidiary cells with cuticular thickenings of the aperture walls, those form a cuticular rim around the stomatal pit.
