- Diagnosis
- Secondary xylem with a stem wood structure,
growth layers distinct with an abrupt transition
from early to late wood, tracheids in early wood
quadratic to rectangular, in late wood rectangular
elongated in the tangential direction, bordered
pits on radial tracheid walls round (abietoid),
standing in one row loosely one upon another,
seldom in two rows oppositely ordered, crassulae
absent, spiral thickenings in tracheids and
resin channels absent; wood parenchyma scattered
abundantly over the cross-section, horizontal
walls with nodular thickenings, rays uniseriate,
1-5, mostly 1-3 cells high, cells of variable
size and shape, with lentiform, long elliptical to
oval forms in cross-section, 20-60 pm, mostly
33 pm high, horizontal walls smooth (abietineous
pitting absent), tangential walls with juniperoid
pits, indenture present, in the cross-field
2-8 cupressoid pits.
