A new species of Nelumbo from South China and its palaeoecological implications [2010/9]
Diagnosis
Leaves simple, orbicular or suborbicular, centrally peltate; margin not preserved; ribs straight, 18–25 in number, with dichotomous branchings. In the intercostal zone of primary veins, secondary veins notwell developed; finer veins directly forming unique small quadrangular or pentagonal areoles. Receptacles obconical, with lateral surface distinctly striate or rugose; fruits globose or elongate ovoid; rhizomes having distinct nodes and internodes and nodes bearing adventitious roots. Epidermal cells of leaves polygonal, while the epidermal cells of tubers regular in shape and usually polygonal or elongate.
