Diagnosis
Uniseriate, unbranched, filamentous structures 0.3-0.8/am wide (av. 0.6/am; 44 filaments) and up to or exceeding 150/am long, encrusted over most or all of their lengths with very fine-grained metallic minerals (commonly pyrite). Filaments smooth to moniliform, gently curved to highly contorted, rarely straight, essentially uniform in width along their lengths. Filament substructure obscured by mineralic encrustation, but probably consisting of chains of rod-shaped or coccoid cells, in some cases possibly enclosed within thin sheaths.
