Diagnosis
Seed/ovulate cone prolate ellipsoidal, with up to 200 spirally arranged cone-scale complexes emanating from a central vascularized axis. Bract scales obtriangular in outline, 2–3 mm long, swollen distally into an apophysis, which in transverse section is rhombic in outline. Each cone scale with a single, adaxial, centrally placed, ovule/seed oriented with the micropyle facing cone axis. Ovules/seeds shortly stalked, ridged or winged along lateral sides from micropyle to chalaza. Chalaza sclerotic, with a distal vascularized extension that is contiguous with the lateral wings. Megagametophyte cells isodiametric. Seeds detach from bracts. Peduncle leaves imbricate, spirally arranged; with spreading and incurved bifacial blades and acute tips.
