- Diagnosis
- Fruit a small nut subtended by
a pair of opposite, more or less equal, spiny bracts.
Nut elliptical. Bract thick-textured and fibrous with a
stout main axis that bifurcates in some specimens,
variable in size, degree of dissection, and number of
spines. Infructescence spicate, composed of numerous
closely spaced sessile fruits.
