A new combination was based on the invalidly published fossil-species Betula fushunensis Chen 1978, lacking type designation when originally published in 1978. Although the authors in 2021 mentioned the 'holotype', its illustration, and repository, the new taxon name still remains illegitimate since it inadmissibly included previously validly published fossil-species, Carpinus latifolia 1978, which ought to be used in a new combination.
