Originaly given as "Nyssa alata (Ward) Brown, n. comb."; but the basionym is an illegitimate later homonym; and the resulted name is nomenclaturally superfluous due to several previously validly published fossil-species were mentioned in the synonymy of a new fossil-species: Andromeda scripta Knowlton (1917), Apeibopsis neomexicana Knowlton (1917), Chrysobalanus lanceolatus Knowlt.
