- Winged seeds; I 20 to 23 mm; nutlet located at the base of the wing and
to one side of the main axis; nutlet 4 to 5 mm long; 3 mm wide, ovate to deltoid in shape, three-cornered; proximal end acute; inside margin of wing thickened and relatively straight to a rounded tip at the distal end; outside margin thin and broadly arched from the distal end until joining the nutlet just below the midline of that body; wing faintly striated; striae parallel to the long axis of the fruit in the proximal part, curving toward the outside margin
distally; wing width 5 to 6 mm. In addition, scattered needles as much as 10 cm long and 0.8 mm wide that show a distinct midrib are occasionally found at the Heart River Bluffs (loc. 14051a) and are provisionally assigned to this species.
