- This subfamily possesses typical ephedroid morphology, the reproductive shoots consist of nodes and internodes, internodes are usually furrowed; leaves are lengthy, linear and parallel-veined; the characteristic female reproductive unit (seed/ovule) present, but terminal to twigs without subtending bracts.
