Plants with compound staminate and pistillate inflorescences, composed of axis and attached heads. Capitate inflorescence including central core and many radiating flowers. Flowers unisexual or bisexual. Perianth well developed. Floral elements five in number. Pollen grains tricolpate. Seed solitary and orthotropic.
