Diagnosis
Flowers bisexual, actinomorphic, pentamerous, perigynous; sepals five, abaxial and adaxial surfaces glabrous or bearing simple trichomes, borne on a hypanthium half the height of the carpels; androecium of one cycle, stamens five, alternating with five terete staminodes; filaments of stamens slender, terete; anthers tetrasporangiate, dithecal; intrastaminal nectary disc glandular; gynoecium bicarpellate with semi-inferior ovary, the two carpels connate basally but divergent apically, each with a single free style; ovules approximately six, anatropous, on axile placentae; fruit a capsule with longitudinal-apical dehiscence along the sutures.
