When established, two fossil-species, Myrica parvula Heer (1883) and Myrica parvifolia Heer (1883), were included into synonymy of the new 'combination' since Berry was not aware that selected earlier species epithet, Rhus microphylla Heer (1874), is illegitimate later homonym of extant species, Rhus microphylla Engelm. in Smithsonian Contr. Knowl. 3(5): 31. Mar 1852.
