Diagnosis
This plant is similar to Ephedraceae in vegetative morphology, including noded shoots, internodes bearing longitudinal striations, linear leaves opposite and having two parallel veins, but differs by its FRUs organized into verticels (vs. paired or ternately whorled in Ephedraceae). It also resembles the Gnetaceae in the lax female spike having verticillate FRUs, but differs in having linear leaves possessing parallel venation (vs. broad leaves bearing pinnate venation as in the Gnetaceae).
