  Drozhаstсhiсh & Purtova stated that the holotype comes from Kerguelen Islands [= Desolation Islands], Antarctica, while provided full and complete reference to morphographic invalid name, Sphagnites australis forma crassus Cookson (in Austral. J. Bot. 1(3): 464. Sep 1953), which was based on the Cenozoic spores of Comaum, South Australia, Benwerrin & Wensleydale, Victoria, Australia.
