- Growth rings distinct, transition from early wood tolate wood gradual. Pits in the radial walls of tracheids uniseri-ate (occasionally biseriate) and circular, 9–23 m in diameter.Pits in the tangential walls of tracheids rare, uniseriate, circu-lar, 6–8 m in diameter. Axial parenchyma absent. Uniseriaterays 1–19 cells high, sometimes partially biseriate (1–3 cellswide). Fusiform rays 2–3-seriate. Ray tracheids usually occurin one marginal row. Horizontal walls of ray tracheids smooth. Both axial and radial resin canals present, epithelial cells thin-walled, traumatic resin canals absent. Cross-field pits taxodioidand occasionally cupressoid, 3–9 m in diameter, 1–4 (6) pitsper cross-field, usually in two horizontal rows.
