- Diagnosis
- Seeds ovate in longitudinal outline, with rounded base
and mucronate apex. Seed coat comprising a sarcotesta and a
sclerotesta. Cuticle of outer epidermis thick. Cells of outer epidermis
generally isodiametric with rounded angles, more elongated near the
seed apex; anticlinal walls straight and thick; periclinal walls smooth,
sometimes convex; stomata lacking. Nucellar cells elongated, tetragonal,
with rounded corners. Megaspore membrane comprising a patterned
layer and a foot layer. Patterned layer composed of generally
unbranching sinuous bacula, arranged parallel to the foot layer.
