- Thallus cylindrical, ranging from 2.4 to 2.7 mm in diameter. Branch cells circular in cross section, open at base, and either cylindrical or tapering outward. Cells range from 0.190 to 0.300 mm in diameter at their inner portions and are 0.300 to 0.400 mm in diameter at their outer reaches. The layers of the branch "walls" have the following thicknesses: inner dark layer (generally poorly developed), 0.002 to 0.007 mm; intermediate light layer, 0.015 to 0.060 mm; outer dark microcrystalline layer, 0.003 to 0.008 mm. Thickness of the outer wall of the thallus formed by the branch cells ranges from 0.475 to 0.750 mm.
