- Diagnosis
- Frustule shape and girdle bands unknown. Valves bowler hat-shaped, composed of central dome and wide marginal area with prominent rim. Single-layered dome wall perforated by uniseriate rows of radial pores. Marginal area with alternating depressions of pore patches (socket) and
hyaline areas in external view. Flap at base of dome partly extends over socket. Socket, consisting of rows of pores running towards rim, associated with articulated spine. Spines T-shaped in cross-section, serrated, with spirally arranged barbs on each side. Two types of valves and spines
suggest frustules were heterovalvate.
