- Diagnosis
- Fertile and sterile stems with circinately
coiled apices. Branches produced by isotomous or anisotomous
dichotomy of apex or from lateral buds. Stems with two opposite
rows of noncontiguous, unvascularized emergences
(enations). Emergences elongate-triangular, often retrorsely
curved, with an elliptical base, tapering to an acute tip, and
flattened parallel to the plant axis. Sporangia elliptical to
rounded, stalked, borne laterally and solitarily on stems. Sporangia
oriented upright, curving toward main axis. Sporangia
dehisce into two equally sized valves, one adaxial and one
abaxial, along a single line that traverses the distal sporangial
margin.
