Diagnosis
Wood diffuse porous. Pores 76-163 per square mm, mostly solitary or 2-3 in multiple arranged in radial series. Intervessel pittings scalariform or oppositely arranged elliptical. Perforation plates scalariform bearing 10-68 cross bars. Tyloses not so abundant. Wood parenchyma apotracheal and diffuse. Ray heterogeneous, types I and II A of Kribs, usually bi- to quadriseriate, sometimes uniseriate. Multiseriate rays bearing uniseriate wings, usually 2-3, and rarely up to 13 cells high. Ray-vessel pits scalariform or oppositely arranged elliptical. Globular content in ray cells of uniseriate portions.
