- Diagnosis
- Round, suborbiculate, or reniform bodies composed of a carbonaceous
groundmass permeated with tubules oriented at right angles to the surface. Sedimentary filling of the tubules stands in relief after the disappearance of the interstitial carbon. A set of ramified, flabellate veins radiates from the concave margin of the bodies (base) and is faintly impressed upon the surface. A deeply impressed, carbon-filled border, free of tubules, surrounds the bodies except at the base.
