- Diagnosis
- Axillary complex consisting of a short axis on which up to 50 scaly appendages are arranged compactly in a helix. In the same phyllotaxis as the sterile scales in the middle region of the axillary complex or closer to its base there are 1-4 orthotropous seeds of Cordaicarpus type on short seed stalks. The seeds may be completely covered by underlying sterile scales. In the upper part of the axillary complex some species have seed stalks with aborted seeds.
