- Diagnosis
- Infructescence a spike of sessile pentacarpellate capsules; raceme axis narrow; capsules subglobose, rounded apically, bearing five persistent styles arising subequatorially and incurved (concave toward fruit apex). Elliptical bulge (interpreted as nectary) beneath each style. Base of fruit with a raised rim representing perianth scars. Dehiscence apical, with separation initiating immediately above each style, and joining apically to form a five-rayed starlike opening.
