- Diagnosis
- Seed-bearing structures are small compound cones, obovate in lateral view and square to slightly oblong in cross-section with four smooth faces and four sharp edges. Length/width ratio 1.4:1 to 2:1. Apex rounded to truncate, with each of the four faces apically rounded; tapering smoothly below to an acute base lacking a peduncle. Cones open apically comprised of twopairs of thick, opposite and decussately arranged bracts arranged around a central cup-shaped receptacle. The receptacle occupies the lower half of the cone and bears six to eight seeds arranged in pairs and embedded in its upper surface in a regular opposite and decussate manner. Seeds erect, orthotropous, about twice as long aswide, narrowly ovate with a pointed apex, radially symmetrical, prominently four-lobed in apical view and transverse section.
