Diagnosis
Pycnyoxylic secondary xylem. Tracheids commonly with uni- to multiseriate bordered pits arranged alternately or partially oppositely. Uniseriate radial tracheid pits isolated, contiguous, or separated in groups. Scalariform bordered pits occasionally present. Rays homogeneous, commonly uniseriate, rarely biseriate. Cross-field pitting mixed, with taxodioid, phyllocladoid, araucarioid and simple pits.
