- Diagnosis
- Relatively large dasycladalean alga. Thallus cylindrical,
with a narrow main stem. Two orders of laterals: the firstorder
(primary) laterals form verticils evenly distributed
along the main axis. The laterals are club-shaped and
gradually widen from the proximal to the distal part. The
distal end slightly narrows towards the exterior. The second-
order (secondary) laterals are short, and attached to the
distal end of the primary laterals. Their shape is vesiculiform
to ovoid. The calcification process is attenuated
around the main axis and around most of the primary laterals;
nevertheless, it led to the formation of an irregular
sleeve located around the distal end of the primary laterals,
embedding the secondary ones.
