- Diagnosis
- Dichotomously branched, (pseudo)herbaceous
stems with more or less transverse septa, a simple, central strand
of vascular tissue, spirally arranged leaf traces and closely fitting, semiamplexicaul leaf bases arranged in low spirals. Distal part of leaf base trifurcate, consisting of two adaxial lateral spines and one abaxial median
spine, the bases of which enclose a small scar. The larger leaf bases may
bear 1–3 adventitious roots on a slight elevation just below to partly on
the lower part of the abaxial spine.
