- Sterile marsileaceous plant remains
preserved as whole plants, leaves or
leaflets. When visible, leaflets showing characteristic
marsileaceous venation of open dichotomous
veins with occasional to complete
anastomoses (reticulate); areoles are elongate,
regularly-sized, pentagonal to hexagonal, fusiform,
and acutely-pointed at both ends; marginal
vein sometimes present; a prominent
midvein is always absent.
