along circumference of structure; emerging from mantle are
prominent projections, which develop as terminal swellings
and lateral outgrowths (or branches) of circumferential mantle
hyphae; projections mostly coni or spines, but wart-like,
spheroidal, inverted pyriform, blunt, and (elongate) columnlike
morphologies may occur as well; some projections with
one or two narrow, lateral branches or distal processes (prolongations);
reproductive unit borne terminally on tubular
hypha.
