- Inflorescences compound and elongate, consisting of a central axis bearing densely spaced and helically arranged lateral units. Central axis showing distinct and ovate scars following detachment of the lateral units.L ateral inflorescenceu nitsd istinctlyb ilobed and supported by a small scale (bract?). Each lobe composed of several closely spaced and distichous,s mall, leaflike scales. Individual scales with a thick cuticle and a thin apical rim with perforationsA. daxial side of lateral units typically bearing seven (occasionally three, five, or nine) sessile flowers in a proximal position and a variable number of small scalelike structuresi n a distal position. Flowers distinctlyt rimerous. Tepals six in two whorls; short and broadly triangular in the outerp erianthw horl; longer and more narrowly triangulara nd witha distinctk eel in the innerp erianth whorl. Androecium consists of nine stamens arranged in three alternatingw horls and three staminode-like structuresi n a fourthi nner whorl. Filaments of the third whorl associated with paired staminal appendages. Anther dehiscence introrse in the two outer whorls of fertiles tamens,e xtrorsei n the inner whorl of fertiles tamens.A nthersw ithd istallye xpanded connective. C arpel solitary,e rect,a nd ovoid. Globularr esinous bodies densely distributedo n the small, leaflike scales, tepals, and anthers. Trichomes short and frequentlyo ccurringo n adaxial side of lateral units, more sparsely on carpels and filaments of stamens and staminodes
