Originally given as "Lithothamnium ramosissimum (Rss.) Unger"; Unger (in Denkschr. Kaiserl. Akad. Wiss. Wien, Math.-Naturwiss. Kl. 14(Abtheilung 1): 17. 30 Jun 1858) did not make the combination, in contrary, he considered N. ramosissima as conspecific with Lithothamnium byssoides (Lam.) Phil. (in Arch. Naturgesch. 3(1): 388. 1837).
