Nodes and internodes present. Roots in rings restricted to internodes. Periderm and cortex thin, vascular region wide. Cortex with abundant mucilage cavities and a few fibre and fibrovascular bundles. Vascular region with a compact arrangement of normal fibrovascular bundles, amphivasal bundles and fibre bundles. Fibrovascular bundles of two types: (1) round to oval with complanata type of sclerenchyma and (2) radially elongated with lunate or reniform sclerenchyma. Amphivasal bundles round to oval with vaginate sclerenchyma and metaxylem vessels in a circle around the phloem. Ground tissue aerenchymatous.
