Diagnosis
Frustules in valve view oval or ovoid to nearly linear. Valve diameter along the apical axis 11.5–31.0 um, along the transapical axis 5–21 um. Some small valves with 6 um in apical axis and 5 um in transapical axis. Areolae on the valve face often located over the entire surface, occasionally isolated as a ring near the margin. Most frustules short cylinders, 3–10 um in height, with two to three pervalvar rows of areolae having robust costae. Separation spines pointed.
