- Diagnosis
- Leaves simple, elliptical, L:W ratio 2–2.5, pinnately veined, with few festooned semicraspedodromous secondary veins. Finer venation random reticulate. Marginal teeth symmetrical, with convex apical and
basal sides, two lateral veins that join the medial vein below the apex, and an apical gland. Leaves opposite, attached to swollen nodes surrounded by a sheath
formed by fusion of the leaf bases that bears two stipules
on each side. Inflorescences compound spikes, lateral
spikes bearing sessile flowers subtended by fanshaped
bracts, with an androecium consisting of three
laterally adjoining stamens.
