- Diagnosis
- Frustules round in valve view, 9–52 um in diameter. Areolae on the valve face often over the entire surface, scattered or isolated, as a ring near the margin. Most frustules as short cylinders, 5–12 um in height, with robust costae on the valve mantle. The Ringleiste (R) circular, of varying widths, occupying a narrow portion of the valve or nearly half of the valve width.
Rimoportulae channels on the Ringleiste of some valves; channels located diagonal or at oblique angles to the exterior, their number from 2 to 4 in 10 um.
