When established, Thaumatopteris muensteri is nomenclaturally superfluous, being included in synonymy three previously validly published fossil-species, viz. Phlebopteris brevipinnata Münster 1836, Phlebopteris speciosa Münster 1836, Phlebopteris serrata Münster 1836, and Phlebopteris longipinnata Münster 1836.
