Originally published as 'Hicoria rostrata (Gopp.) n. comb.', being based on the illegitimate homonym, Juglans rostrata Goepp. in R. Ludw. (Palaeontographica 8(4): 136. Jul 1860), substituted by legitimate Carya rostrata Schimp. (Traité Paléont. Vég. 3: 257. May 1874).
